How A ‘Liquid Lift’ Took 10 Years Off My Face

Posted: Monday 19 December 2011 02:57pm

Andrea Ferrari is the owner of her own, eponymously titled publishing company, which produces Esprit Magazine (and Andrea also edits), the highly respected quarterly trade magazine for the retail beauty industry in Australia. Several months ago, cosmetic physician Dr Pramod Parmar, of the Manly Cosmetic and Laser Clinic in Sydney, gave Andrea a so-called “liquid facelift”, to revolumise and rejuvenate her face with dermal fillers, along with Botox to lift her mouth corners into a “happier” place.

I’ve never had any cosmetic surgery or even Botox but I have long had a pet hate of my marionette lines, carving out crevices in my face that doesn’t look like the happy person I feel.

I don’t just look older than I feel, but less happy than I feel. After attending his presentation on the Mondeal Aesthetics-distributed fillers, Esthelis, Fortelis and Aquamid, Dr Pramod Parmar had me at “hello”.

A week later I’m up on a bed and Dr Parmar is drawing lines on my face with a Texta and I’m a little nervous – I am trusting this man to stick needles in my face. But I do trust him to do that. He tells me what he’s doing and why, so much so that I feel I have no questions when he asks me. I meekly reply “no, let’s do it.”

It’s a little like going to the dentist. There are needles to numb the pain, yet there is some pain. However, throughout the procedure (some 15 minutes max), Dr Parmar is reassuring and asks if I am comfortable. I am. He continues.

Before my liquid lift (left) and much happier now!

Before my liquid lift (left) and much happier now!

During the 15 minutes I have had Esthelis in my naso-labial folds to fill out those hated tramlines; Fortelis in my cheeks to gently plump them up and lift the mid face, and Botox under my eyebrow to lift the outer edge of the brow thus uplifting the corner of my eye; and Botox at the outer edges of my upper lip to upstick the corners of my mouth …. To take away the look of being a little sad.

I am happy with the effect immediately but Dr Parmar tells me the Botox will really kcik in in a couple of days and the dermal filler will blossom in a couple of weeks, with around 12 months’ longevity.

He recommends drinking double what I normally consume in water – at least two litres a day for the next two weeks, ideally.

My face is a little tender but I actually go out the following night and no one comments, negatively or positively. Then the bruising came out. I lost a little confidence in flashing off my fancy new face and slapped on concealer and foundation, but Dr Parmar had warned me there could be some bruising which could last a week.

It did just that but then I began to truly enjoy the “me” I saw in the mirror. It is much more “me” than the “all lines going south” face. I love it. And I would highly recommend dermal fillers as an effective, but soft, option to give you back the face you had, maybe, 10 years ago. I have had highly enthusiastic compliments but best of all I love it myself. And now, of course, I look as happy as I feel!

    What a fabulous, subtle result!
Now none of us need ever to look old or sad for long.
    Thanks for the honesty

I cant see any difference at all in those photos. One photo is overlit to highlight wrinkles and the other underlit for the opposite effect. You think I’m being cynical? See the difference with the wrinkle on her untreated neck!

I think you look great before and great after. Its really your smile that makes you look fabulous. That said, the results look really natural, but I am worried that if I began such a regime that I may end up getting that “overfilled” puffy look that so many end up with, and that just looks ridiculous.
