Angelina Jolie

Dario describes Angelina as having hair “shoulder pads”: “This style is not modern but it works because it’s lifting her cheekbones up by putting the sides up. The instant face lift you get from hair shoulder pads is great for when you need that little extra help to make you feel more attractive.”

When it comes to her tresses at least, Jen has the balance just right, according to Dario. “Darker colours contract and lighter colours expand, so when you’re next getting your hair coloured, it is best to get darker shades filtering through the widest areas of your face. This will make you look thinner and reduce the need for you to diet yourself silly! The expert colourists in my Darlinghurst salon are trained in rebalancing the face with colour, ensuring clients leave with a colour that is suitable for their complexion and face shape.”

Kim Kardashian

This sister always looks the part, but if you’re not in love with your nose, “a middle part can draw attention to [it],” says Dario. “If you’re not that enamoured with your nose, go for a side part to draw attention elsewhere. This will ensure you feel more attractive and confident about yourself.”

Eternally youthful at 53, Dario says Sharon Stone has “perfect anti-ageing hair! Having more lift around the front hairline lifts the cheekbone area of the face to create an upward energy about her, and as a result she looks revitalised and fresh. To achieve this look, apply Alterna mousse on the front hairline only, from the corner ends of both eyebrows to the crown and blow-dry to create lots of lift. After hair is dry, apply a small amount of mousse on the front hairline to create more lift.”

Julia Gillard

This is the best haircut our PM has ever had “as it balances out her features”, says Dario. “However the colour is getting out of control. She needs more depth on top and the brightness needs to be pushed towards the ends. This will create a more slimming effect for her face.”

Kate Hudson

Single gals take note! “If you want to invite the opposite sex without saying a single word, then this tip is for you,” says Dario. Like actress Kate Hudson, “styling your hair with curls or waves and wearing your hair to one side, off the shoulder to expose the neck, is enough to disarm men and make you look very approachable – all without compromising your style”.

Carey Mulligan

It takes confidence to crop your hair like Carey Mulligan’s, says Dario. “Short hair pushes the face forward so is the perfect style for those ready to step out and being noticed. I recommend every 20-something year old going short at some stage as it helps you better understand how important hair is to the face. My only tip if you’re considering the crop, is to make sure you only do it when you are comfortable with your body. Short hair will draw more attention to it as there is no hair to hide behind!”

Nicole Richie

“Nicole’s fringe is very wide set and a style like this is only recommended on a very narrow face,” says Dario. “Wide set fringes put weight on the face, but in this case it rebalances perfectly on the right person.”
