Iron Out Your Wrinkles

Posted: Monday 30 May 2011 03:09pm

Pellevé is the newest innovation in non-surgical face-lifting and smoothing. This radiofrequency technology delivers quick results, is virtually painless (unlike other RF systems) and is rarely accompanied by side effects or other complications.

Not only is Pellevé (pronounced pell-a-vay) effective and easy to administer, it is one of the few wrinkle treatment systems approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Pellevé works by gradually and progressively heating the skin with a warming device to stimulate new collagen production, which results in the appearance of firmer skin.

There is no downtime associated with the procedure. The treated area is a little red and slightly swollen (in a good way) for a few hours afterwards. Because we’re raising the temperature of the skin gradually instead of suddenly, the patient experiences the feeling of a warm facial massage.

Once heated, the collagen in the deepest skin layer contracts, forcing new collagen to be formed after the treatment. This newer collagen quickly creates a smoother appearance in the uppermost layer of skin.

The entire Pellevé treatment takes between 45 minutes and an hour. This short time is possible because a Pellevé treatment does not involve any incisions or anesthesia, which are usually the most time consuming aspects of procedures.

Immediately after the procedure, patients should expect to see skin that appears firmer and tighter. The overall result is a noticeable improvement in skin quality and appearance with minimal side effects and recovery time. It then takes 4-8 weeks to see results as collagen is stimulated.

It is recommended that patients have a series of three treatments for optimal results. A maintenance treatment every one to two years after that will help the battle against ageing.  It may help slow the progression of facial wrinkles, folds and loose skin that can lead patients to seek surgery later.

Most patients request Pellevé to target the wrinkles at the corners of the eyelids, otherwise known as crow’s feet. Pellevé also is very effective in treating the wrinkles that stretch between the nose and the corners of one’s mouth, commonly referred to as “smile lines” or “laugh lines.”

Candidates for Pellevé are healthy women and men, usually middle aged and older. Most candidates have fine lines on the face, or wrinkled or drooping skin. Pellevé is most appropriate for those with mild to moderate wrinkling.

Results typically last a minimum of six months, much longer than many competing skin treatments.

Another advantage is that you can have it done the day before (or even on the day) of your important event or party with immediate improvement seen and no tell-tale signs.

Cost per Pelleve treatment is around $650 plus GST, which is considerably cheaper than other systems of its ilk.
