Anna Field says:
Rosacea is a difficult skin condition to manage – I say manage, as that is what it is really about. Rosacea starts flaring up for most sufferers in spring, with all the pollens and irritants in the air. When summer adds that extra heat, it can become really uncomfortable and visible. Rosacea is stimulated in the heat as it is so closely linked with fine capillaries. When we are hot, the capillaries dilate and bring the blood to the surface to cool us own. It’s an effective system, however when it is combined with Rosacea it makes the affected area redder, more irritated and dry. What to do? Swap to skin care for sensitive skin and avoid things that increase body heat, like excessive exercise during the day (try mornings when it is cooler), hot coffee and spicy foods.
There has been some research coming out of the USA that suggests rosacea sufferers have higher numbers of a mite called Demodex folliculorum, so stay tuned there could be some interesting improvements to the treatment of rosacea in the future.
Skincare to watch out for is Dermalogica’s new Ultra Calming Range due out in Nov 2010. They have revamped some old favourites and bringing out new friends!
