Fitness Friday: Best Workout Songs To Make You Move

There have been dozens of studies into how music can help athletes, both amateur and professional, train longer and harder. Music helps us dissociate from the task at hand, that is it distracts us so we focus on what is flowing through our headphones rather than on the exhaustion we’re feeling.

Three recent studies have shows that the disassociation effect when listening to music (during treadmill running at moderate intensity) reduces perceived exhaustion by 10%! There is power in the (i)Pod.

Another study, by Liverpool John Moores University, found that increasing or decreasing the tempo of a song being listened to by a healthy male on an exercise bike slightly increased or decreased the heart rate and pedal cadence of the subject. Good enough reason for me to jump onto the iTunes store and get downloading!

What song is your ultimate workout song? Do you find it easier to workout to music?

Here are some of the faves of YY HQ.
