Erase Wrinkles In Seconds

Posted: Monday 28 March 2011 09:32am

Baby plump, soft and moist skin in seconds. Hydration that lasts for up to a year without slathering yourself in creams. Too good to be true?

Meet Mesolis, a procedure that moisturises the skin from within, evening out lines, wrinkles (and prevents new ones forming) while restoring radiance to tired complexions.

Using a pen-like device, droplets of hyaluronic acid and glycerol  are injected into the surface of the skin in a series of tiny pin pricks that take only seconds at a time.

“A good way to describe Mesolis would be as a `semi-permanent moisturiser’,” says cosmetic physician Dr Joseph Hkiek, of Sydney’s All Saints Cosmedical Clinics. “It’s like those pellets that  you add to the soil of your garden to lock water in the soil.

“And unlike other skin hydrators on the market,  it offers a solution to the full thickness of the skin. ”

Mesolis combines glycerol, which moisturises the epidermis (outer layer of the skin), with hyalronic acid, a hydrator that plumps the dermis (the  layer of skin between the epidermis and subcutaneous tissues).

“It makes the skin look plumper an fuller – hence pore size diminishes, wrinles and fine lines are better,  there’s an increase in firmness and  radiance and therefore  an overall  improvement in the complexion,” adds Dr Hkeik.

Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide (complex sugar chain) which is chemically identical to that found naturally in the skin of all humans.  In its natural state in the skin, HA creates volume and forms an important component of the “ground substance” – the medium in which the collagen and elastin fibres lay.

HA of course is the primary component of contemporary dermal fillers, like Esthelis and Fortelis, that are used to fill wrinkles and furrows and re-contour the face.

“Mesolis can be used in conjunction with dermal fillers; hydrating the skin does not change he shape of the area where it is placed.”

Dr Hkiek says theye is “small discomfort” with some of the needles and side effects may include minimal swelling, bruising and redness.

The procedure takes 20-30 minutes dependingon the areas treated – most commonly the face, neck, decolletage or hands. Avereage costs are $450 for one area or per vial.

“For dry skin, 3 sessions are needed 4- weeks apart,” says Dr Hkiek, “and results last 6-12 months. If you’re having Mesolis for a special occasion, such as a wedding, big celebration or important work function, I would suggest treatment about 3 weeks in advance to ensure the product has integrated in the skin and there are no residual side effects.”
