5 Tricks For Humidity-Proof Hair

Humidity is hair’s biggest enemy. The high moisture in the air during humid weather creates frizz for curly hair, and weighs down fine hair. If you’ve spent time styling it, odds are your efforts will be fruitless once you step outside. Follow these tricks for humidity-proofing your hair to survive the summer in style.
1. Embrace your natural hair texture. By working with your hair’s natural texture you will achieve longer-lasting results. Keep your strands hydrated with a good conditioner and embrace your natural waves. Apply a styling mousse (a mousse won’t weigh hair down like a cream or gel will in the heat) after you wash your hair for added hold.
2. Use an anti-humectant product. To combat humidity you want to prevent your hair from absorbing the moisture in the air. An anti-humectant product, such as KMS California Hairstay Anti-Humidity Seal, $31.95, gives hair 24-hour waterproofing protection to fight humidity and shields hair from frizz.
3. Don’t strip your hair of moisture completely. Yes moisture causes your hair to frizz, but extra dry hair will desperately take in any moisture it can get, so keep your hair hydrated with hair masks and avoid over-drying through heat styling.
4. Learn to love cold showers. Finishing your shower with a very cold blast of water will seal the cuticle and prevent moisture from seeping in and causing frizz throughout the day.
5. Get a humidity-proof treatment. An in-salon keratin treatment will help smooth your strands and protect against frizz. A keratin treatment is designed to straighten your hair naturally (without damaging chemicals), leaving it strengthened, conditioned, smooth and shiny.
