QUESTION: I have heard about “boob jabs” to increase the size of my breasts. What is involved in this, who would perform it and would you recommend such a treatment?
ANSWER:
The procedure you refer to was being trialed in Australia; designed to enlarge, lift or balance the size your breasts with the injection of a specialised hyaluronic dermal filler called Macrolane. I have not done this procedure and wouldn’t consider it a viable option as it is expensive and offers only short term results – a treatment could cost up to $6000 and effects may last 12 to 18 months at best.
I don’t believe dermal fillers would make enough of a difference to breast size and shape to warrant the cost. The treatment also wouldn’t be suitable for women whose breasts are quite saggy or who want a very large cup size. Fat transfer is another treatment being trialled but viability as a widespread option to surgical breast augmentation is a long way off.
In my view, breast augmentation mammaplasty (aka breast implants and breast enhancement) is the only worthwhile route as an aesthetic surgical procedure to increase the size and enhance the shape of the breasts. Breast implants will also correct slight sagging of the breast and can increase breast firmness.
Breast augmentation has undergone significant refinement and improvement in recent years. Improved implants and refined techniques have resulted in more reliable and aesthetically ideal breast augmentation results as well as smoother surgical course, lower incidence of complications, shorter hospital stay and early return to normal work and activity. It is a very popular and common procedure.
Every woman deserves to feel good about herself and breast enhancement can be an amazingly positive and often life transforming procedure.
