Freeze Fat To Death! My CoolSculpt Triumph

When Irene Heywood was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes she could no longer keep making excuses – like being in her 60s, or menopause – for the 15kg that had piled on over a decade. A new approach to diet and exercise helped her lose 10kg but she needed extra help to shed the other 5kg. She chose a new fat-freezing technology, CoolSculpt, at Ageless Clinic in Sydney.
For most of my life I have struggled with weight but up until I was 45 -50, I managed to keep it reasonably well under control, swinging between dress sizes 12 to 14. However, being just five foot one and a half inches (don’t forget the half) tall in the old language, size 14 was enough to keep me looking a little more than “pleasantly plump”.
What happened between the ages of 50 to 60 I have no idea. I seemed to lose the ability to control my appetite and it wasn’t long before I was fitting snuggly into a 16.
I yo-yoed for a while, as I think most of us do if we’re honest, but then became a little complacent, blaming my age, menopause and anything else I could think of. And so long as didn’t have my photograph taken or look at myself in a full-length mirror, I could live with it. So live with I did, but not happily.
At the age of 60 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, a condition I could have avoided had I not carried my excess weight. Fortunately I did not have to take medication but could control the condition by sensible eating. It wasn’t easy at first but I resolved never progress to medication, not if I could control the diabetes by food intake.
Over the next 12 months I lost 10kg and became accustomed to my new way of life. However, I still needed to lose at least 5kg and, as anyone who has been down that road knows, the final few kilos are the hardest.
I have areas of concentrated fat that seemed to appear after childbirth … they were the areas where I first gained weight and were the hardest to lose weight from. My narrow waist disappeared long ago, after the birth of my third beautiful child, but at my heaviest my waist measured more than my hips.
After giving the matter some thought I decided I needed a little help with this next phase. I had seen liposuction performed many times on various television shows but the procedure made me squirm. It looked too invasive and I’m much too much of a coward to go down that road.
Looking for different options I logged on to my best friend “Google” and found out about this revolutionary new fat-freezing machine (I call it my fat-freeing machine), CoolSculpt. I carefully read all the information available and thought “this could be for me”.
After further research and asking around I was introduced to the Ageless Clinic in Sydney (Randwick to be precise). They were excellent and told me all about the procedure, the cost, and any discomfort I might experience.
Now, with a Pacific Christmas cruise on my horizon I thought how good it would be to wear a swimming costume around the pool without feeling self-conscious. Yes, even in my 60s I still want to look as good as I can for as long as I can. Call it vanity, self-preservation, whatever, it doesn’t matter. What matters is feeling good about yourself at whatever your stage of life.
So in November I went along to the Ageless Clinic not quite sure what to expect, even though I had done my research. I was greeted by this gorgeous, petite nurse who made me feel really at ease as she checked out the areas to be treated, photographed them (oh dear), then asked me to put on the biggest, baggiest pair of knickers I have EVER seen.
After marking out the target areas I laid down whilst she attached to me what looked like an elongated cup. It was a weird sensation when the machine was turned on. I felt like I was being sucked into a vacuum cleaner. There was a mild discomfort for only a few seconds and then it was fine.
Five areas were targeted. My hips, my midriff and either side of my stomach. Each area takes one hour to treat and I had been told to take a book or crossword or something to pass the time between treatments. I am still amazed that I was so relaxed I actually slept through each of the five treatments, only waking when it was time to change areas.
Two days before I was to embark on my cruise I tried on some slacks that I haven’t been able to fit into for five years. They fit me perfectly and I was as proud as punch, checking myself out on that previously neglected full-length mirror.
Four weeks after the treatment, along with exercise and good eating, I had lost 3kg and, with another two to go, I am confident of achieving my desired weight walking the decks of the P & O Cruise Ship in confidence.
I highly recommend this treatment to anyone who has problem areas of fat. Take the plunge, call the Ageless Clinic in Randwick and talk to Dr Jeremy Cumpston … you certainly won’t regret it!
