Choosing Your Eye Cream Consistency

Posted: Monday 17 October 2011 10:16am

The consistency of your eye cream can be just as important as the ingredients in it. Here’s our guide to finding the best texture for you.

In Your 20s

Since your eye area is only in the early stages of ageing, a lightweight consistency is all you need. Even though you may only have a few fine lines, an eye cream is still an important part of your beauty routine. A hydrating serum rather than a wrinkle-fighting formula is perfect for your needs at this age. Try Aesop Parsley Seed Antioxidant Eye Serum, $81.

In Your 30s and 40s

By now you might be starting to show a couple of fine lines around the eyes. The skin around this area becomes thinner and drier with age so try a creamy texture that softens and smooths the skin around the eyes. Try Shiseido Benefiance Concentrated Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream, $77.

In Your 50s and Over

For deeper wrinkles and severe dryness, it’s time to find a thicker, antioxidant packed eye cream. The best texture for this age group is a rich eye balm with moisturising and collagen-building properties. Try La Mer The Eye Balm, $260.

Remember: While the above is a great guide for getting started, your personal preference is also an most important factor to consider when choosing the right texture for you. Gels are great for sensitive skin while a roller ball applicator is good for puffy eyes.
