The Right Concealer

Concealer is a must-have product. It can help you achieve a flawless complexion by covering spots and blemishes, spider veins, dark circles and evening out your skin tone. Here’s how to pick your best match.
CHOOSING THE PERFECT COLOUR
Finding the right shade of concealer can be the difference between hiding imperfection and highlighting them further. Therefore the best shade needs to match your skin tone perfectly.
To find your shade apply it to an area that needs concealing and check the colour match under direct sunlight (not just in store where the lighting is harsh). Often you may need to combine two or three shades before you find an exact match. The correct colour will seem to disappear on the skin, but eliminate the imperfection at the same time.
Concealers we love: Max Factor Mastertouch Concealer, $5.95; Revlon Age Defying Spa Concealer, $26.95; Clinique All About Eyes Concealer, $36; Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit, $60; Rimmel London Match Perfection Concealer and Highlighter, $13.95
YY Tip: When applying concealer always build the colour. If you over-apply product it will look flaky. Use your fingers: they can help warm the product for a seamless application.

COLOURED CONCEALERS
Concealer also comes in neutralising colours, which work to counteract skin discolouration.
Yellow concealer
A yellow-based concealer is perfect for concealing under-eye circles which tend to have a purplish hue.
Green concealer
To counteract redness in your skin, use a green concealer. Great for covering blemishes, red blotches, and rosacea.
Purple concealer
Use a purple concealer to normalise yellow-toned imperfections, such as sallow complexions and yellow bruises.
Try: Napoleon Perdis Pro Palette Correct & Conceal, $55 (pictured) – which has a yellow, green and purple concealer in one.

Those dark circles kill me – but the Revlon Age Defying Concealer is a life saver, it really works and does not look cakey and thick, blends beautifully!

I always find it difficult to get the correct concealer for my skin. It’s either too yellow or not enough coverage. It also ends up looking cakey at times, even sinking into the lines under my eyes. I have used expensive and cheaper branded ones, neither make a difference. I will try your tip of warming the concealer in my fingers before application, to see if it will be easier to blend.
