Want a fuller pout like Angelina’s but not ready to go down the needle track? Try these tricks instead.
Start by exfoliating the lips as cracking will detract from the natural curves of your lips. Light scrubbing will also encourage blood flow to the area. Follow with a lip balm to nourish and fill in any fine lines. Try Natio Ageless Lip Smoothing Treatment, RRP$16.95; followed by Comvita Nourishing Lip Treatment, $20.90.
Using a lip liner in a shade that closely matches your lips’ natural skin tone, like L’Oreal Paris Infallible Lip Liner in Spice For Days, $21.95, draw a soft outline around the edge of your natural lip line. Applying the liner just outside the mouth’s contour at the cupids bow will exaggerate the curves for a plumped effect. Fill in the rest of your lips with the lip liner too.
Light colours and glossy finishes generally make lips appear fuller. Glide your lip gloss wand over the lips, giving the surface a coating of light-reflecting product. This bounces the light and adds fullness and depth.Try Bourjois Gloss Effect 3D Gloss, $21. YY Tip: Avoid applying gloss the corners where product can pool and add volume where you don’t need it.
If you’re wearing lipstick, dab gloss onto the centre of each lip to create a curvy appearance.
One Last Trick: To highlight the contours of your lips and bounce light off the skin, trace along your cupids bow (but not the entire upper lip line) with a pearly pink eye shadow, using a damp lip brush.
Another quick and easy option for fuller looking lips is a lip-plumping product. Not everyone likes these as they cause a slight tingle when applied, but the effects are instant. The formula of a lip plumped causes the blood vessels to dilate, leading to temporary (completely safe) swelling. Click here for our top product picks.
